LEXINGTON, Kentucky, February 26, 2026 - Software company AVAIL – which creates content management system (CMS) solutions for the global architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry – has released the results of its 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey through its professional development initiative Confluence. The resulting 75-page report delivers a comprehensive view into how AEC industry firms are assembling and operating their technology ecosystems.
Based on input from 115 AEC industry contributors capturing information about 410 distinct software applications across 20 categories, the report reveals which tools firms are using most, where integration gaps persist, and how leaders are navigating increasingly complex technology ecosystems.
AVAIL launched the inaugural AEC Technology Stack Survey in fall 2025 to pair with the program theme — AEC Platforms: Elevating the Dialog — for its signature professional development event Confluence Lexington and answer the question, “How many different software applications are in use across architecture and engineering firms?”
The answer is AEC industry firms manage 86.8 software applications on average, from the results collected through December 30, 2025.
To explore more findings across the 20 technology application categories, the 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey Results report is available for immediate download through the form on confluence.getavail.com/2025-survey.
“The AEC industry is drowning in software,” AVAIL CEO and Founder Randall Stevens said. “That’s why Confluence launched the 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey. Our goal was to illuminate where the industry is converging, where fragmentation persists, and to give firm leaders a practical benchmark they can use to simplify, standardize, and operate their technology stacks with greater confidence.”
The 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey Results set the stage for broader conversations on AEC technology integration, interoperability, and how firms can simplify workflows while still enabling innovation.
On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, AVAIL hosted a webinar where Stevens discussed the 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey findings with AEC technology leaders Robert McNeel & Associates (Rhino)’s Scott Davidson, LPA Design Studios’ Nicholas Kramer, ArchVision’s Corey Rubadue, Egnyte's Aaron Vorwerk, and industry veteran Daniel Monaghan. A recording of the webinar Inside the AEC Tech Stack: Leaders Discuss Confluence Survey Data is available on YouTube.
To continue the conversation around the theme AEC Platforms: Elevating the Dialog, Confluence will host two in-person events this spring, Confluence Seattle on Thursday, April 2, 2026 and Confluence Chicago on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Tickets are available at confluence.getavail.com.
Original 2025 AEC Technology Stack Survey participants received individualized peer comparison reports that benchmarked their firm against the 2025 dataset, highlighting where their stack aligns with the market, where it diverges, and where consolidation or investment opportunities may exist. For those who did not participate but are interested in an individualized peer comparison report, the 2025 survey is still available to submit and receive an individual report.
To help shape future editions, Confluence welcomes the AEC community to complete a feedback survey where additional applications and new categories can be recommended.
